This week's Master is a man with a fantastic Horror name. His name is Howard Phillips Lovecraft and in my estimation, he is the inventor of weird.
H.P. Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island in the year 1890. His father suffered from a nervous breakdown and died in Butler, Hospital. His mother was to die some years later in the same manner. Lovecraft was a friend to Robert E. Howard, the famous creator of Conan the Barbarian. He was mentor to Robert Bloch and many others. Bloch seems to be his favorite, for he featured a story in which he killed Bloch off. Bloch had done the same thing to him! He taught Bloch much about writing.
Lovecraft was a prolific writer. He created the Mythos of Cthulu, the Dagon and many other fantastic and strange creations. A complete listing of works can be found at http://www.hplovecraft.com, as can a wonderful
biography and even a list of misconceptions about his life. Please, check out this most interesting website. It can point you in the direction of other sites should you choose to become an afficianado of Lovecraft.
One of my favorite creations is the tome which is bound in human skin. It is the Necronomicon of which I speak. This book of evil is featured in much Lovecraftian lore and many movies. Who can forget it's appearance in "Army of Darkness". Klattu Vrada N-hghghhg cough cough!
Check out "Dagon", "From Beyond" and the "Dunwich Horror" just to name a few! Then, watch some of those movies that feature the "Necronomicon"!
